Captain America a hit to the feels.

It took me a week, but i finally got to get out to the theater and see Captain America Civil war.

I have to say i was impressed, the movie was a perfect combination of action, adventure, and slapstick comedy blended into a nice marvel milkshake of goodness.

The movie itself follows closely with the other Marvel movies that have happened. If you can’t remember, The Avengers were founded and the World got attacked, and attacked again. Tony Stark tried to protect the world but he created a super crazy robot that nearly ended the world again.

Steve Rogers has spent a quite substantial amount of time finding and losing his friend Bucky Barnes. Civil War starts with another series of hide and seek with Steve and Bucky. Of course a number of things go wrong or this wouldn’t be a Marvel movie.

I am sure that you all are aware of the new spiderman in the movie. I have to say that i am 100% on board the Tom Holland/Spiderman train. Tom Holland absolutely killed the Peter Parker in my eyes. His accent, his rather naive optimism absolutely sold his Spiderman character. I think when he gets a standalone, he will kill it. I enjoyed watching him and his rather upbeat personality. He was a superhero but when he was around the other hero’s he was like a kid seeing his favorite sports star up close and talking to them. Just imagine if your pro idol walked up and  gave a high five to you, you would lose your mind.

The movie had a lot of touching moments in it, showing the internal pain that some of the characters were going through, they were all suffering in their own ways. Everyone was fighting their own inner demons and couldn’t seem to let go of the past. The story was pushed along by the fact that Captain is the Eternal soldier who can never stop fighting, while Tony is a man who has grown weary of war and death. I walked into this movie siding with Steve Rogers, #TeamCaptain but in the end i could see both sides of the coin, both had valid reasons for taking the stance they did.

Paul Rudd makes a cameo in this movie and he really adds a lot of comedy to the scenes that he is in. I can never take him seriously, he just seems so goofy, and it made the movie very refreshing. I enjoy a dark gritty movie, but Paul and Tom’s light hearted childish demeanor only helped pull the movie into bright spots. When the movie hits DVD i will be picking up a copy that is for sure.

 

Ronda Rousey SuperHero or super Villian?

Social media has made its pretty clear that current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey wants to be immortalized as a super hero. In the last few months, she has been posturing hollywood to make her Captain Marvel, in an upcoming Captain Marvel Movie which is expected to release in 2018. Director Kevin Smith, has thrown his hat in the ring, supporting Ronda for Captain Marvel

There seems to be one problem, Ronda isn’t an actress; she is a MMA fighter. Granted she was in the movie Expendables 3, but she was not a leading character. Playing a super hero is both a gift and a curse. It can either launch you into the halls of stardom that will never fade (i.e Robert Downey Jr., Chris Pratt, or Chris Evans) or totally wreck your career, making people question your super hero credibility (i.e Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern, Toby McQuire in Spiderman, or everyone who has been in the Fantastic Four.))

I am not saying that Ronda doesn’t have what it takes to be Captain Marvel, nor would i ever. Have you seen what she has done to trained MMA fighters in under a minute? I am pretty sure i don’t stand a snowballs chance in the center of the earth. Ok maybe slightly better, i am pretty fast and could possibly just keep running until she got tired of chasing me, but what i am saying is playing a Leading role is difficult.

I think if there is one female who can play an ass kicking lead, outside of Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, and Scarlett Johansson, it would be Ronda. If there is one thing that makes her an ideal candidate, its the fact that she has Mixed Martial arts training, as well as she is an olympic Judo Champion. Few if any actors can say that they are Judo champions, let alone trained fighters, This means that it is more than likely that she can do her own stunts. It add’s a bit of realism to the movie, if the actor is doing her own stunts. Tom Cruise is living proof that doing your own stunts can make the movies more exciting than when the actor is added in post, or not there at all.

Another thing that Ronda has for her, is the fact that she is a fellow nerd. Ronda has been very open about her love for Pokemon and Dragonball Z. Ronda has been rather proud of her Pokemon collection, what is better for the Marvel universe, than a female lead who is a trained fighter, that loves Nerdy things. the only fault i can give her, is her supposed crush on Vegeta.

Come on Ronda, seriously? He is a self centered jerk. Granted Bulma is the one person tougher than he is, and he has a reason (His wife and kids) to not wipe out the planet, but you can’t tell me that Krillin and his little bald head don’t excite you just a little bit. They say big things come in small packages and he is rather tiny.

With that being said, i can not really find fault with Ronda being a possible candidate for Captain Marvel. She clearly wants the role, and you don’t see many people that adamant about playing the role. If you look at Pictures of Captain Marvel next to Pictures of Ronda, you can’t help but see the resemblance in the two of them. Ronda’s fans have been like a snowball on a down hill path, with their support; posting pictures of her in the costume which looks amazing.

There seems to be one small thing that is dogging Ronda as of late, it is past comments she made about her clothing brand and a fellow MMA fighter. But lets be honest, her comments were not that derogatory as much as they were just her personal opinion. It recently resurfaced, a series of comments she made about a transgender fighter, and she made it known that she believed the fighter had an unfair advantage over other women because she was once a man. she cited that the bone and muscle structure gave her an advantage regardless of her sex change. Most people took this as an attack on the trans community, saying that she hated them; but she never made that comment. She never said she didn’t like the fighter or the community, just she believed there was an advantage.

Another thing that people have been attacking her for is her clothing brand, DNB or Do Nothing Bitch. People are attacking her, saying that it is belittling the female cause, but she doesn’t see it that way. Ronda has supported the brand and the fact that she doesn’t want to be a female that just sits around and waits for life, she goes out and lives her life; hence the name of her clothing.

Some people may try to use that against her, and say that she doesn’t deserve to have the accolades she does, or deserves to be a movie star, but i sure as hell wouldn’t say that to her face.

It is only a matter of time before we find out if Ronda gets to be the next Female Super Hero, but if her fans are anything like Deadpool fans, I am sure Disney has their servers being spammed non stop with Ronda for Marvel emails.

Captain America or M’erica

I would like to start this blog post off by saying that i am going to spoil the whole movie by giving you the full run down in this blog. Honestly you should see the movie. Here is just a quick recap of the whole thing incase you missed it or aren’t a big comic book movie fan. so (SPOILERS) 

So Today i went out and saw the movie Captain America and i can say that it did not disappoint me at all. I ended up seeing the movie in 3D which lets be honest is kind of a waste of money. I have yet to see a movie that really pushed the use of 3d to the limit and blow me away. Honestly i think most movies don’t know or want to really push that technology to the limit. I can only imagine how expensive it must be to render a Movie in 3D only to have to render it again in standard 2D. I also think 3D would be better if we didn’t have to wear those glasses that are kind of annoying and can sometimes be nauseating when you look at anything that isn’t on the screen.

The other upside to seeing the movie today was that there was only six other people in the theater watching it. Being able to see the movie with such a small group is good cause you don’t hear people talking or any of that nonsense.

I being a huge comic book geek really love this movie. I thought everything about the movie was really good. There are quite a few hints that give away what is going on in the movie. While the hints aren’t that blatant they also aren’t that subtle it is kind of obvious is you watch the movie. The story is still very good because it follows the same story that has been told this entire time. I think i like captain because he is the good old american boy who does what is right no matter what. While some of the other avengers tend to teeter that line. Captain was the World War Two hero who stopped the Nazis and Punched Hitler in the face. (Read the Comic) He just has that aura about him of being the guy everyone wants to me. The action is also very gripping, the movie doesn’t really slow down at any point. Sometimes a lull in the action can really slow down a movie and cause people to lose interest but the writers do a good job of keeping you heavily invested. Black Widow being in the movie also helps as she is a double threat as a sex symbol and a no nonsense can fend for herself fem fatal. I would go back and see the movie a second time. I feel like this movie has kept the flow from the second Avengers movie while the third Iron Man kind of fell off with the story. As far as regular action adventures go this is very good. Hopefully you have seen all the other movies leading up to this or you will be confused as to how he ended up why he is there. If not then here is my rundown of Captain America 2-Winter Soldier

The movie itself holds very true to the story line that has been told since the first captain america in 2011. The story starts with Captain and his expert team which includes Natasha aka Black Widow aka the most bad ass woman in Marvel (my opinion). The team has been sent to infiltrate a ship and recover the hostages that have been captured by a terrorist group. Captain America ends up getting in a fight with the terrorist leader who is George St-Pierre (The most dangerous man in MMA). During the fight the two men break through a door and Black Widow is in the control room downloading something onto a drive instead of helping the team extract the hostages.

Captain defeats George and has a rather heated discussion with Natasha when George wakes up and tosses a grenade at them. Captain thinks quickly and prevents either of them from being turned into ground beef. Black Widow lies to Captain and tells him that he had his mission and she had hers. Captain later finds out that Nick Fury, his boss and SHIELD have been building these giant floating air-craft carriers. The point of them is to monitor the world because they will never need to refuel (They are powered by Tony Starks Arc Reactor or the same thing his suit uses to fly). Nick says that this the only way to keep the world safe from the terror threats and Captain tells him that doing this will prevent the people from being free when they are constantly living in fear.

Fury takes Captains Advice into consideration. Something becomes a miss when Nick Fury tries to access the files that Natasha had brought from the ship. He finds out that he has somehow locked himself out of the files. Nick becomes suspicious and asks his friend Alexander Pierce and head of the international committee that over sees SHIELD to halt the deployment of the the floating air fortresses. Pierce complies but with stipulations. Nick is ambushed in his car and miraculously makes it out alive. Captain comes home to find that Nick is hiding out in his house. Nick tells him that someone is targeting him before he is shot several times through a wall and killed. Before he dies he tells Captain not to trust anyone and hands him the drive.

Captain, not being able to catch the killer decides that he needs to figure out what is going on. He hides the drive and heads to SHIELD headquarters to answer questions about Nick’s death. Pierce asks him what he knows and Captain decides not to give him much information since all Captain knew was that Nick said don’t trust anyone. Captain enters the elevator and is soon swarmed by fifteen guys. Captain beats up everyone and jumps out of the elevator. Captain makes his way back to where he hid the thumb drive only to see that it is missing. Natasha appears behind him and tells him she wants to help. They try to access the thumb drive but find out there is some sort of algorithm that is preventing them.

Widow and Captain then begin to be chased by members of shield and they end up encountering the Winter soldier and his men who do some serious damage and put a little bit of a whooping on Captain. Captain with the Help of his companions get away and continue their adventure. Captain and Widow end up finding out that Dr. Zola who is a member of Hyrda (the evil Nazi super branch from the last movie) is not actually dead and that everything that SHIELD has been doing has been a product of Hydras doing and that the ships were all created so Hyrda could use them to finally take over the world and kill off some 5million or so people who may pose a threat to their organization. He tries to kill Captain with a giant missal but fails.

Captain and Widow find out that Nick Fury is not dead and that he figured out that Pierce is a member of Hyrda and they have been killing off all the members of SHIELD that could have taken them down in the past. They figure out a way to to take down the ships by hacking them. They get two of the ships taken over when winter solider appears. By the way it turns out Winter soldier is actually Captains best friend Bucky who was experimented on in the first movie and somehow survived that 300 foot fall with just a jacked up arm. Him and captain fight but Captain gets the upper hand and saves the day even after being shot a handful of times. The ships begin attacking each other and begin falling apart. Captain see’s his friend Bucky trapped under steel and saves him.

Bucky repays this by beating the living daylights out of Captain again. Captain sits there and desperately tries to un brainwash Bucky.  He finally tells him that he will be there for him until the end of the road and Bucky snaps out only to watch Captain fall 300 feet into the water. Bucky ends up saving Captain and drags him to shore before leaving. There is a big investigation and everyone finds out that SHIELD was all just a cover and there is all kinds of fall out. Everyone goes their own way because their cover is blown and Nick Fury is still technically dead. Widow gives Captain everything she can find on Bucky and he sets out to find his friend.
